The design of a Thrust Bearing is different from other types of bearing products. The thrust gaskets along with rolling elements make the basic construction roller thrust bearing items. A Spherical Roller Thrust Bearing has two symmetrical rows of spherical rollers. There is a common sphere raceway in the outer ring of roller thrust bearings, and the raceways in the two inner rings are connected to the axial of the bearing at an angular position. The constructional features of Roller Thrust Bearings facilitate a great ability of self alignment. This also helps these in operating at the time of shaft deflections under too much load or when the shafts tend to misalign during mounting. Spherical Roller Thrust Bearings can carry heavy loads including both axial and radial. They are known for their ability of anti-impact and are commonly used in crane hooks, injection molding machines, vertical pumps, screw conveyors, gearboxes, pre-heater fans, and extruders, etc.

The designs of the thrust bearings depend on the series and the size of the item. The size of these bearings may vary from 110 mm to 850 mm. The geometry followed in the technology of developing these bearings enable them to produce less friction during bearing. The style 'E' is supposed to be the most advanced among all the other types of Spherical Roller Thrust Bearings and thus, has highly improved characteristics of lubrication. The level of dynamic load ratings that they allow is also higher than the rest. This also makes them less susceptible to shocks. However, the speed capacity of these bearings is lesser as compared against their other advanced features. The window type cage along with the rollers in the type 'E' make the assembly non-separable from the shaft washer.
